Rep. Dan Griffey, R-Allyn, sent out a newsletter Jan. 21 to update constituents about the 2022 legislative session.
In his newsletter, Griffey wrote one of his biggest priorities is to address the governor’s emergency powers. House Bill 1772 would address legislative involvement in gubernatorial proclamations relating to a state of emergency. Senate Bill 5039 would subject gubernatorial emergency orders to legislative approval.
Griffey also said House Republicans are trying to address public safety, including amending the police reform laws passed in the 2021 session, including House Bills 1310 and 1054.
Griffey is sponsoring several bills this session, including House Bill 1657 to reduce emissions and safety risks to increase the state’s truck parking supply through tax incentives. House Bill 1655 aims to help truck drivers by encouraging the opening of safety rest areas for all drivers.
House Bill 1656 would change the definition of theft and House Bill 1292 would criminalize the act of knowingly providing pornography and other materials to a minor by anyone 18 or older. House Bill 2077 would help fight human trafficking by requiring human trafficking informational posters to be placed in bathroom stalls of safety rest areas by 2023.
Griffey is co-sponsoring House Bill 1929 with Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, to provide new grant money for rural fire departments buildings and equipment.
