Representative Drew MacEwen, R-Union, sent out a newsletter highlighting some of the bills House Republicans are working on.
According to the newsletter, five bills are aimed at providing tax relief, including House Bills 1898 to reduce state property tax levies, House Bill 1594 to repeal the long-term care trust act and payroll tax, and House Bill 1913 repealing and replacing the long-term care trust and payroll tax. House Bill 2015 would expand the working families tax credit and House Bill 1858 would reduce manufacturing tax rates.
Five bills focus on public safety, including House Bill 1737 to restore “balance and common sense to police reform” and House Bill 1788 to allow law enforcement to chase suspects and House Bill 1787 to put more police officers on the streets. House Bill 1656 aims to protect retailers from theft and House Bill 1873 helps prevent catalytic converter thefts.
House Republicans have presented bills about state government, including House Bill 1772 adopting emergency powers reform, House Bill 1541 increasing funding to cities for homelessness solutions and House Bill 1177 implementing the periodic review of state spending programs. House Bill 1178 aims to improve state budgeting through zero-based budget reviews.
Republicans have also presented bills about education, including House Bill 1973 requiring school board meetings to be recorded, House Bill 1633 promoting school choice through the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program and House Bill 1215 establishing an education scholarship program to promote equality. House Bill 2056 would increase transparency in the classroom.
