Mason County records 10 COVID-19 deaths
Maso County reported 10 deaths from COVID-19 in the past week, according to Mason County Emergency Management.
The deaths were a man and woman in their 50’s, a man and woman in their 60’s, two men and a woman in their 70’s and three men in their 90’s.
In a daily update, the county noted that public health is dedicated to providing accurate data on deaths due to COVID and that means that each death is examined to see if it was truly related to COVID or not. Due to the lengthy process, the county is slower in releasing deaths and will be releasing deaths in batches.
The county recorded 110 COVID-19 cases in the past week, a decrease from the 132 cases recorded in the week prior.
The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 114.2 and the 14-day case rate per 100,000 is 315.3.
There are five people hospitalized with COVID and the county is 54.6% fully vaccinated.
One injured in crash on state Route 102
A 25-year-old Port Orchard woman was injured in a two-car accident Dec. 7 on state Route 102.
According to a news release, the woman, driving a 2011 Chevy Impala, was stopped on state Route 102 at the intersection with U.S. Highway 101. A 32-year-old Shelton man was approaching the intersection behind the woman and rear-ended her.
The woman was transported to Mason General Hospital with injuries and her vehicle was totaled. The man was charged with a DUI.
Mason County Sheriff’s Office seeks stolen vehicle
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help in finding a stolen vehicle.
According to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, a Suzuki “Carry” was stolen Dec. 7 from the Lavender Lane area located between Agate Road and Pickering Road. The utility vehicle was last seen heading south on state Route 3. These types of utility vehicles have become more popular and there are several unique items on the vehicle, including larger off-road tires, an orange emergency-type light on the top and a heavy-duty bumper.

One injured in Mission Creek community fire
An injured person was transported to Mason General after a structure fire Dec. 7 in the Mission Creek community.
According to a Facebook post by North Mason Regional Fire Authority, North Mason RFA was dispatched to the fire at 4 a.m., and units arrived to find a full involved outbilding with fire threatening a car and RV. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the building and keep it from spreading.
Water outage for Mason PUD 1 planned for Friday
Mason County PUD 1 announced a water outage from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
According to Mason County PUD 1’s Twitter, the outage is for electrical work to install the generator and the PUD 1 is asking residents to prepare for the outage by having extra drinking water on hand and turn off the breaker to your hot water heater.
