New details about stabbing

Details about what happened leading up to a student being stabbed at Shelton High School on Sept. 20 have been released.

According to the Shelton Police Department documents, two students got into a fight and one student was the victim of six stab wounds, one on his neck under his left ear, a slicing wound on the left side of his stomach, two stab wounds on his left side, one stab wound on his back and one stab wound behind his left armpit.

The stabbing victim told police the suspect had been taunting him throughout the day for being gay and the suspect had already been sent to the principal’s office earlier in the day for the harassment. The victim said he is gay.

The victim said he and the suspect were outside in between the 300 and 400 buildings on school grounds when the suspect called the victim an anti-gay slur before the two began to fight. The victim said he did not realize he had been stabbed until he walked away and saw blood and immediately went to the hospital.

The suspect was expelled for the fight and officers went to the suspect’s house. The officer told the suspect at the house that he was warned that the officers could not question him until he had an attorney present, but the suspect said he stabbed the victim and was claiming self-defense. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Mason County Juvenile Detention for first degree assault and a hate crime for stabbing the victim due to his sexual orientation.

The suspect was released on $10,000 bail. The trial began Nov. 23 and continued Wednesday.
