Shelton locked up a district playoff spot with a 36-6 win against Black Hills last Friday in an Evergreen Conference football game at Highclimber Stadium.
The Highclimbers are guaranteed a district playoff game with the win, either against the No. 1 or No. 2 team out of the Greater St. Helens League.
"It's a lot better to qualify for a play-in game, knowing that you have a chance to get into the field of 16," Shelton head coach Mark Smith said.
Mason Goos returned this week after missing last game. He was 12-for-21 with 124 yards and one touchdown. Gabriel Menefee was the leading receiver with five catches for 58 yards. Weetly Cordova caught two passes for 28 yards and Bradley Eleton caught one pass for eight yards and a touchdown.
Eleton was the leading rusher as well with 11 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Fuller had 11 carries for 73 yards and Jude Sosky, Brad Haskins Jr and Brad Tiller each had a rushing touchdown.
The leading tackler was Eleton with 10 tackles and two for loss. Ryan Mackiewicz had six tackles, two sacks and two tackles for loss. Sosky, Ty Taylor, Jayden Ryder and Blaze Andrews each had tackles for loss.
"I thought defensively, with the exception of the first drive of third quarter, they played pretty dang good. It was one of our better performances of the year defensively," Smith said. "Offensively, we played more physical and aggressive. We were without our punter and kicker so we went for two after each touchdown. Mason (Goos) did a great job punting for us. It was a good senior night victory. It was youth football night, a pretty good night in general."
Smith also applauded the performance of Eleton, doing it all for the Highclimbers on offense and defense.
The Highclimbers (3-4, 3-2 league) have secured at least a playoff for the final two district playoff sports. Shelton travels to Burien tomorrow for a nonconference game against Highline.
