Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
The Port of Shelton has received a $50,000 grant and Mason PUD 1 was awarded a $797,040 grant from the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board.
According to a news release, the money is a planning grant that will be used to help define needs and development potential for current and future tenants at Sanderson Field.
“We are extremely excited and thankful to the CERB Board for providing this funding opportunity,” Port of Shelton Executive Director Wendy Smith said in a news release. “Our hope is to spur the future economy through millions of dollars of private investment and excess jobs for the area to enhance our already existing businesses and utilities on the property.”
Mason County PUD 1’s grant was from the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund for the Hood Canal-101 Broadband Project. According to a news release, the grant will help extend broadband from just south of Eldon to the county line and Colony Surf, which is about 4 miles of middle and last mile fiber along U.S. Highway 101. Mason County PUD 1 is joining with Hood Canal Communications to help provide internet.
The project is expected to produce 117 connections.
