    The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced updated winter state championship guidelines Jan. 26. According to the news release, WIAA state bowling championships at Narrows Plaza in University Place this weekend will see each classification complete all competition on one day, with 1A/2A competing Friday.     Shelton Boys basketball Shelton had a busy week with four games, defeating Rochester and Aberdeen before a last-second loss to Black Hills. The Highclimbers took down Rochester 73-38 on Jan. 25 at Terry Greg Court and hosted Aberdeen Jan. 27, earning a 73-28 win.     North Mason High School has hired Rob Thomas as its new head football coach, athletic director Lexi Hadfield announced in a Friday news release. Thomas was the Bulldogs' defensive coordinated and associate head coach during the past two seasons. Thomas is also North Mason's head bowling and baseball coach.     The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group has purchased 50 acres of the Big Beef Creek property. HCSEG now has 302 acres of habitat at Big Beef Creek, located near Seabeck in Kitsap County, across Hood Canal from Brinnon. A creek nearby is called Little Beef Creek.
