    Valerie Marie Cook, 93, passed away peacefully at her Mason Lake home in the company of family on October 23, 2023. During her last weeks, she attended a family gathering on Mercer Island, met her newborn great granddaughter Adelyn on FaceTime, viewed the final printing of her personal Memoirs and was able to say good-bye to many family members and friends.     Albert Mel Smith was born on October 26th, 1940, to Zetha Smith and Albert Smith. He took his long journey with his family in attendance on November 9th, 2023. Mel graduated from Irene S. Reed in 1959. From a young age Mel worked at Nalley Farm in Skokomish. After high school he started working for Simpson Timber Mill; then he was drafted to the United States Military in 1963 until 1965. Mel is a Vietnam Veteran, he proudly reached E4.
