Coronavirus surging through the students and staff at Pioneer Schools prompted the district on Monday to close its elementary and middle schools for five school days. The Washington State Salmon Recovery Funding Board last week announced the award of $21 million in grants across the state to aid in salmon recovery. The state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction reports that 787 school buildings in the state receive “poor” ratings for their heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including 11 buildings at Shelton High School.
