MCSO buys drone system The Mason County Sheriff’s Office agreed with county commissioners to an annual contract with Brinc Safeguard LEMUR Tactical Drone system, and to provide supplemental funding to the 2024 budget and allow the office to purchase two drones this month. Snow day extends district school year To meet state requirements of 180 school days, the North Mason School District has added one snow day to extend the school year. Students in the district will attend a full day school day on Friday, June 16. Monday, June 19 is the Juneteenth holiday and there is no school. Heinrich resigns from Union Fire Mason County Fire District 6 commission chair Richard Heinrich has resigned with the intent to retire Aug. 31 at midnight. One dead in Timberlake fire A person died Aug. 11 in a single-family residence fire at Timberlakes near Shelton, according to Central Mason Fire & EMS. According to a news release, another resident was hospitalized at Mason General Hospital with severe smoke inhalation. The victim was found on the floor of a bedroom near the window by firefighters while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze. Mason County Public Works discovers loss of funds The Mason County Public Works and Utilities department discovered a loss of funds relating to refuse transfer stations.
